New York’s venerable Carnegie Hall’s 2026 – 2027 season boasts an historic first-ever highlight. Richard Wagner’s towering achievement of Der Ring des Nibelungen will be performed in four consecutive Concerts during the optimum compact period of only six nights in March of ’27. The RING dates will be Thursday, March 18th for Das Rheingold; Friday, March 19th for Die Walküre; Sunday, March 21st for Siegfried; and Tuesday, March 23rd for Die Götterdämmerung (2:00 pm for Siegfried, and 6:00 pm for the three others).

As New York has been deprived of even a single complete performance of ‘The Ring’  since the MET’s harshly criticized staging (last seen in 2019), Carnegie Hall’s single cycle will no doubt be sold out months in advance. We are fortunate that our early request has been confirmed for 25 tickets in the Dress Circle, where all music lovers are aware of the superlative acoustics. The international cast is headed by the same quartet of brilliant Wagnerian interpreters who recently starred in La Scala’s acclaimed cycle this spring: Finland’s radiant soprano Camilla Nylund as Brünnhilde; German heldentenor Klaus Florian Vogt in a ‘tour-de-force’ triple assignment as Loge, Siegmund and Siegfried; Lithuanian soprano Vida Mikneviciute as Sieglinde; and Germany’s foremost bass/baritone Michael Volle in his signature portrayal of Wotan/The Wanderer. Also featured in the extensive cast are Christopher Purves as Alberich, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as Fricka, Noa Beinart as Erda, Mika Kares as Fasolt, Hunding and Hagen, David Leigh as Fafner, andAgnieszka Rehlis as Waltraute. The four operas will be sung in German with projected English titles.

How many times in recent years have Wagner ‘aficionados’ had to settle for controversial updated ‘Ring’ stagings which interfered with the appreciation of Wagner’s peerless operatic tetralogy? For this occasion, it should prove a joy to concentrate on the rich orchestration and the vocal interpretations of an ideal cast in the hallowed ambience of Carnegie Hall. The esteemed Zurich Opera Orchestra will be conducted by its Italian Music Director Gianandrea Noseda for all four dates.

Repeating our choice of accommodations in recent years, we will again be staying (forsix nights) in a private club ideally located within easy walking distance of our performances. Further details will be included in our Final Itinerary a month prior to the Tour.
