SALZBURG
EASTER FESTIVAL & MUNICH
April 8 - April 16, 2003
|
|
|
For
the past seven years, we have offered an annual visit
to the prestigious Salzburg Easter Festival
encompassing the complete four-performance cycle of opera
(Beethoven’s inspiring Fidelio
this year) and concerts by the Berlin Philharmonic
– conducted this spring by Music Director Sir
Simon Rattle and the revered Dutch maestro Bernard
Haitink. |
|
Bavarian State
Opera |
Each year, we have combined Salzburg with a second city where
the opera program is the most enticing of the season –
sometimes Munich, Vienna, Prague or Zürich.
In April of 2003, we have chosen the Bavarian capital
of Munich for a three-night stay prior to Salzburg, where
we will encounter a trio of exciting performances by the
Bayerische Staatsoper in the splendor
of the historic Nationaltheater. |
|
|
Marienplatz,
Munich |
The operas in Munich will be Carl Maria von Weber’s early
landmark of German Romanticism, Der Freischütz;
Mozart’s sublime human comedy, Le Nozze di Figaro;
and Verdi’s melodic Italian melodrama, Un Ballo
in Maschera.

Hotel Vier Jahrezeiten |
Mirabel Gardens,
Salzburg |
As both ‘Freischütz’
and ‘Figaro’ are traditional productions designed
by the Staatsoper’s acclaimed Jürgen Rose,
we are assured that our Munich visit will be more in accordance
with our own taste than some of today’s irreverent updatings.
| A particular
joy of the Munich – Salzburg combination is the
opportunity of staying in two of Europe’s grandest
old-world hotels. Munich’s Vier Jahreszeiten
and Salzburg’s Sacher Salzburg
are among our favorite hotels in the world for their ideal
locations, superlative cuisine, and legendary personal
service. |
