BOSTON CULTURAL WEEKEND
March 26 - March 29, 200

For the first time in nearly two decades, Great Performance Tours has chosen a long weekend in early spring to return to the Olde New England capital of Boston. The city’s deep cultural roots have long been recognized in the heritage of the famed Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), the venerable Handel & Haydn Society – especially accomplished in the choral repertory of the grand masters – and the priceless art collections housed in both the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Our four-night Bostonian immersion will include each of the above institutions as well as the two major performing arts companies which have emerged more recently – the adventurous Boston Lyric Opera, which will be presenting Giacomo Puccini’s relatively unfamiliar La Rondine (‘The Swallow’), and the highly regarded Boston Ballet, which will be offering an evening of three masterworks choreographed by George Balanchine.

Our program by the BSO in the restrained elegance of Symphony Hall will be comprised of German works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss, while the Handel & Haydn Society will be perform choral and instrumental compositions by Bach and Haydn in the intimate venue of Jordan Hall. We are delighted that our four performances will take us to four different theatres in the heart of Boston.

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts houses a priceless collection of paintings by European masters as well as important Asian and Egyptian galleries. Our visit will coincide with a special exhibition entitled Impressions of Light: The French Landscape from Corot to Monet.

Boston is also renowned as the home of the Isabella Steward Gardner Museum, where we will view one of the finest private collections in the country.

The Ritz Carlton Hotel

Accommodations for four nights at the Ritz-Carlton Boston. This is the "Old Ritz", always considered the city's most refined and traditional hotel to experience the historic charm of New England. Following an extensive $45 million restoration, it is scheduled to re-open this fall and continues to command a premium price due to its unique reputation for personal service and quiet luxury. Situated across the street from the open space of the Boston Common, the Ritz is only a short walk from our performances of both the opera and the ballet and within a couple of blocks of the antique shops of Newbury Street and the designer boutiques along Tremont Street.

The hotel's dining facilities include the Wine Cellar and Club Lounge for informal meals and the Roof Restaurant for fine cuisine and panoramic views. "Afternoon Tea" at the Ritz remains a Boston ritual, especially following the popular Friday afternoon BSO concerts. The unprecedented restoration includes a renovation of the graceful outdoor facade and the addition of a new fitness center.
