For all Wagner lovers, Chicago is the place to be in April of 2020. The four-part Der Ring des Nibelungen endures as Richard Wagner’s most towering achievement, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s new production will be completed with ‘Die Götterdämmerung’.  (‘Das Rheingold’ and ‘Die Walküre’ have already been critically acclaimed, and ‘Siegfried’ will be unveiled this season.)

When Chicago’s previous Cycle was completed in 2005, there was a veritable frenzy for tickets. As it has been a long wait of fifteen years for this eagerly anticipated new staging, tickets will again be at a premium in 2020. We are pleased to have already secured our Prime Orchestra tickets for this thrilling event.

During a compact six-night visit to Chicago, the ‘RING’ will unfold in four sequential evenings. All four performances will be sung in German with simultaneous English surtitles. The proven artistic team is headed by the company’s Canadian Music Director, Sir Andrew Davis, “a great musician who brings freshness and ardor to everything he does” (London Times). The British director David Pountney and set designers Johan Engels/Robert Innes Hopkins are in charge of the romantic and imaginative staging, with provocative ideas totally devoid of the ‘Eurotrash’ influences which often pervade today’s contemporary productions.
